Develop Existing Volunteers
Providing your volunteers with ongoing training and development is important to their volunteer experience. However it is essential that any training in useful and accessible.
IS IT USEFUL?
Volunteers need to see the value in training and feel it's worth giving up their time for
For 37% of 18-24 year olds, gaining skills is their highest priority (NCVO Civil Society Almanac 2019)
IS IT ACCESSIBLE?
Barriers to entry for training need to be as low as possible. Can the club cover some/all of course costs? Can you put on your own course at the club e.g. first aid?
WORKING TOGETHER
Use the knowledge and experience you have within your volunteers and membership to develop and upskill other volunteers. E.g. an experienced groundsman teaching someone about pitch maintenance.
FEEDBACK
Seek feedback from your volunteers both informally and formally, e.g. surveys, about what they need and want in order to improve their experience and develop.
