Busy season ahead for Herefordshire's junior sides
9 years ago | By Edd Oliver
A busy season is in store for Herefordshire's young cricketers. Herefordshire run 8 boys' county age group teams (from Under 9s up to Under 17s), 2 boys' Development sides (at U11s and U13s), and 3 girls' county age group teams (at Under 11s, Under 13s and Under 15s).
Next week the U11s Development side will be in action on Wednesday 4th May against Lucton School at Herefordshire Cricket Centre, and on Sunday 8th May the Under 10s (against Cardiff & The Vale at Herefordshire Cricket Centre), and the Under 12s (against North-East Wales at Brockhampton CC) will play the first county matches of a busy season, which will see Herefordshire boys and girls sides play over 130 fixtures in total.
This follows an equally busy winter and spring in which over 200 young cricketers were put through their paces, with 8 weeks of indoor training at Bridge Street Sports Centre in Leominster, together with pre and post Christmas intensive training, and then 4 weeks of outdoor training in April and May at Herefordshire Cricket Centre.
Herefordshire Cricket Centre itself is set to benefit from the installation of a 2 lane permanent net structure in 2016, to enable the county's young cricketers to get regular outdoor training in Hereford, and a mobile net has also recently been acquired.
