Herefordshire Council Community Grant Supports Cricket in Local Primary Schools

5 Feb 2025   |   By Pete Gale

HEREFORDSHIRE Cricket Ltd has linked up with Herefordshire Council in a bid to further expand the appeal of the summer game.

“We have developed an excellent working relationship with Herefordshire Council and this has brought us a community grant of £15,000,” said Herefordshire Cricket’s cricket development officer Pete Gale.

“This has enabled us to develop a new programme to go even further into the community, work with hundreds more children and provide continuous personal development for PE coordinators and teachers within our primary schools.”

This new Boundless Boundaries programme provides opportunities for children to play more cricket, learn about teamwork, resilience and confidence, and signposts them to cricket clubs.

“The programme has been received extremely positively by schools and we are seeing huge benefits for the children,” said Pete Gale.

“Most of our work is about making cricket accessible to all, increasing participation to unlock the many health and well-being benefits and develop life skills in the community. We are working hard to embed cricket more deeply into our communities and make it a sustainable sport for all.

“For us to be able to extend our free coaching offer has meant that more coaches are coaching, pupils are healthier physically and mentally, and teachers are becoming more confident in teaching PE and, more specifically, cricket.”

Herefordshire Cricket Ltd provides cricket camps in each school holiday to increase the skill level of the players, to support them into playing club cricket and potentially become part of cricket in the county in the future.

“As we increase our offers in our schools and communities that are relatively deprived, we are meeting our promise to make our sport as diverse and accessible as we can,” said Pete Gale.

“We aim to ensure that as many of our children have the chance to shine in cricket and that we remove the boundaries and barriers to becoming a part of the cricket family.

“If you would like more information on any of the programmes that we offer, please contact us.”
