July saw the finals of the newly restructured hardball competitions for secondary schools.
In the Jack Roberts Cup (u 15's) Kingstone HS 242/1 St Mary’s 110/2
Some impressive batting from Archie Langford, scoring 200* .
Kingstone went on to represent Herefordshire at Shrewsbury School in the next round.
In the Chadd Cup, (u 14’s). Kingstone HS 86/5 v John Masefield 85/9
The Ed Price Plate Lady Hawkins 159/4 v Weobley 157/5
Softball :Year 10 Girls playing for John Burgoyne Cup
4 schools entered this competition.: Lady Hawkins x 2, Kingstone High and Lucton.
In the final, Lady Hawkins A team scored 93 against Lucton34. Good athletic fielding from both teams. For the 3rd/ 4th play off. Lady Hawkins B beat Kingstone.
This year's Richard Wydenbach trophy was contested in the new softball format for students in Year 8&9. 8 schools competed on the day, with the final being played between Lucton and Kingstone. Lucton bowled first and restricted Kingstone, taking regular wickets. However, Kingstone battled back with some equally tight bowling and took a number of catches, to win the final, proving catches really do win matches. The group runners up contested for the Plate final and this was played out in an all Whitecross affair. Whitecross A proving victorious.
The David English Trophy was played out by Year 7students in the softball 6-a-side format. The final was between Earl Mortimer and Lady Hawkins, both had really impressed throughout the day. 12 schools took part in the festival and a great day was had in the Herefordshire sunshine. Earl Mortimer won the final.
A truly great summer of cricket, with the new formats proving to capture a wider audience for cricket across the county. A good building block for next season.
