Herefordshire 1st XI v Glamorgan CCC
3 Aug 2023 | By Richard Prime
RAIN claimed another victory in Herefordshire’s soggy season when a steady downpour washed out the annual showcase game against Glamorgan at Eastnor.
Although play was able to get underway on time in pleasant, sunny conditions, the clouds quickly arrived and no play was possible after the first ball of the 24th over in Herefordshire innings.
Glamorgan skipper James Harris won the toss and invited Herefordshire to bat first with his decision quickly paying off when opener Ben Chapman-Lilley was caught off the captain for just 5.
Chapman-Lilley’s opening partner Conor Smith launched a big six off Harry Podmore before the bowler gained his revenge by winning an lbw appeal.
Nick Hammond (27) and captain Matt Pardoe (18) also fell but Ollie Walker (14 not out) looked in good touch and had smashed a massive six over cover before the rains came.
Herefordshire will be hoping that the erratic weather will finally have settled down when their next fixture, a three-day championship game against Berkshire, gets under way at Eastnor on Sunday, August 20.
