Make a Difference Through Cricket – Become Our Director of Schools Cricket
Do you believe in the power of sport to transform young lives? Are you passionate about developing cricket in schools and creating opportunities for every child to play, learn and grow? This is your chance to shape the future of grassroots cricket in Herefordshire.
At Herefordshire Cricket Limited, we're on a mission to grow the game, inspire the next generation, and ensure that cricket is a positive, inclusive, and thriving experience for all. As our Director of Schools Cricket, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping not just the delivery, but also the strategic direction of how the game is introduced and developed across schools in the county.
This is a unique opportunity to help set the long-term vision for schools cricket — from introducing the game to children in primary schools to creating clear, sustainable pathways into college-level cricket and beyond. You’ll play a key role in ensuring this work aligns with our wider participation strategy and meets the needs of the local cricket community.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a Board Director and strategic lead for schools cricket, you will:
- Champion and lead on all aspects of schools cricket across Herefordshire.
- Shape and support the strategic direction for cricket in schools, helping to set goals and priorities that align with Herefordshire Cricket’s broader vision.
- Support the professional staff delivering programmes in primary, secondary, and tertiary education.
- Oversee and guide key initiatives such as:
Herefordshire Schools Cricket
Champion Schools Programme
Chance to Shine
Secondary Schools into College Cricket - Act as a key liaison with schools and education partners, ensuring smooth delivery of training, coaching, and competitions.
- Attend and contribute to regular Board and operational group meetings.
- Provide feedback and insights from school sessions to help coaches and staff continuously improve.
- Help shape and support the relationship between Herefordshire Cricket and the broader educational sector.
What We’re Looking For
You don’t need to have experience in everything listed below – what matters most is your enthusiasm, insight, and commitment to helping young people thrive through cricket. The main focus of this role is to support the school’s lead, helping them set the direction and decide what to prioritise. We’re especially keen to hear from people who have experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Building partnerships with schools or community organisations
- Strategic planning or programme design in education or sport
- Education, sport development, or community programmes
- Working with children or young people
The Role of a Board Director
As a non-executive Director, you’ll help guide the organisation by:
- Contributing to the vision, strategy, and values of Herefordshire Cricket.
- Supporting and constructively challenging the work of our professional team.
- Monitoring performance and helping manage risk and reputation.
- Acting with integrity, independence, and the best interests of Herefordshire Cricket at heart
Commitment & Support
- This is a voluntary position, but your impact will be huge. Time commitment includes:
At least 4 Board meetings per year - 6 schools cricket group meetings (bi-monthly)
- Attendance at the AGM (June) and some cricket events or finals
- Reasonable expenses are reimbursed (mileage, travel, accommodation if required).
- Term: 3 years, renewable up to a maximum of 9 years.
We support our Board members with learning and development, and we value diverse perspectives that reflect our local communities and the future of the game. In keeping with the Boards compliance in gender diversity we are keen to ensure this is maintained throughout the current Countywide Partnership Agreement to 2028. We reserve the right to interview and appoint the appropriate candidate at any time throughout the recruitment process.
Safeguarding
We are committed to safeguarding everyone involved in cricket. This role is subject to safer recruitment checks including disclosure of criminal records.
