Herefordshire's Women Beat Norfolk Twice in Double Header

HEREFORDSHIRE’S Women achieved their first double-header double success when they twice beat Norfolk in the Vitality Blast Women's League 3 - Division 2B at Pentland Gardens.

Although the two margins of victory were relatively small – eight runs and six runs respectively – Herefordshire were mostly on top in both matches.

And of particular merit were the performances of the three locally based players.

Georgie Williams (41 and 50) top-scored in both matches, skipper Chloe Tingle captained the side skilfully and contributed a crucial unbeaten 25 in the first match and newcomer Florrie McKenna, a teenage leg-spinner, held her nerve to bowl Bella Borges (26) after the Norfolk player had damaged her previously immaculate figures of 0-6 from three overs by hitting four successive sixes.

In the first match, Maisie Wright (21) and Olivia Gough (12) laid the innings’ foundations but it was a stand of 39 for the fifth wicket by Williams (41) and Tingle (25 no) which took Herefordshire to a winning total of 128-5.

Herefordshire could never be entirely sure of victory while Georgia Demetriou (58) was at the crease, but Anya Pedireddy (2-13), Lucy Barnett (2-14), Sophie Kinnersley (1-18), Tingle (1-21) and Williams (1-21) all took wickets to steer the home side to success.

In the second match, Wright (23) and Gough (14) again made early contributions but the major scores came from Williams (50 from 48 balls with seven boundaries) and Ellie Donaldson (28) who shared a fourth-wicket stand of 48.

The Norfolk openers reached 55 before they were parted but crucially this took them more than 10 overs.

Once Barnett, who again bowled impressively with 3-26, had cut through the middle order, Norfolk were unable to increase the rate sufficiently to gain a victory.

With all of the six sides in the division now having completed eight matches, Herefordshire are third in the table.
